This week’s enhancements include:

Stars in search
Every day, we work to improve the four key components of search: comprehensiveness, latency, user experience and relevance. Of these, relevance is dramatically enhanced by more personalized results. This week, we announced a new feature that makes it much easier to mark and rediscover your favorite content. Stars in search are just like the stars you see in Google Toolbar or in Maps — they act like bookmarks. When you star a search result, and it happens to appear again in future results, you’ll see that you already found that particular result. Starred items will appear at the top of your results. Stars in search has been rolling out this week, and will be available globally for all users who are signed in to their Google account.

Auto-spell for images
This week, we unveiled automatic spell correction for images. In cases where we’re highly confident you had intended to type something else, we’ll replace results from the typo query with those from the spell-corrected version — just like when you misspell a query in Google search. Ultimately, this change will reduce the time it takes to get you the result you’re looking for (and that’s a good thing).

Example searches: [butterflys], [roman architecture] and [apollo ohno]

Sidewiki page owner entry
In September, we launched Sidewiki, which lets you contribute helpful information to any webpage using a sidebar in Google Toolbar or a Chrome extension. Afterward, webmasters asked, “How can I quickly put Sidewiki on all pages of my site?” Now webmasters can create a special entry, called a page owner entry, that appears above all entries written by users. Webmaster tool improvements ultimately create a better web experience for us all, so we’re pleased about this. Let us know what you think about our webmaster enhancements.

Stay tuned for next week’s news on more search launches.

One cannot really compare these two movies, however one can say that these were probably two of the three most enjoyable movies I have seen this year. The first being Avatar, which was absolutely awesome and I will be writing a separate review on.

Here are some reviews I have received from my blog readers:

DRAG ME TO HELL

“We went to Ocean Basket afterwards & hired ‘Drag me to Hell,’ which I thoroughly enjoyed. I let out 3 screams, they got me good, but I thought the wrong envelope that was supposed to have the cursed button in it was very lame as we all knew it was the wrong envelope. The girl at the Video shop said she was disappointed with it, but I thought it was excellent, following the rule that in a true horror movie there is no happy ending.” Lyn C (3rd February 2010).

“I also thoroughly enjoyed the movie but was dissappointed that there weren’t any twists and turns with regards to the plot. However, no movie has ever made me jump that much before so it was really worth it.” Daniel C (4th February 2010).

“I walked out of the movie in the theatre soon after I saw the part where the fly goes up the woman’s nose.” Sbo T (October 2009).

“I thought it was an awesome movie and it wasn’t your average horror movie, it was more of a thriller as it would go through periods of extreme calm which would build up into something quite scary – Especially the part where the old ladie’s Handkerchief floats and then turns into a very scary depiction of the old ladies face.” Rob V (October 2009 – I watched it three times)

SHERLOCK HOLMES

“I hear the new Sherlock Holmes movie is not good for people who like Sherlock being the master of deduction. Apparently they’ve made him a super hero instead. We don’t like Robert Downing or Downey, so will give it a miss.” Lyn Carr (3rd February 2010).

“Anyone who says that about the movie has never read any of the Sherlock Holmes books or isn’t a fan of Robert Downey who actually takes on the role of Sherlock Holmes very well. Having read a few of the Sherlock Holmes’ books, I can say that the movie at the theatre was actually an accurate depiction of the Sherlock Holmes character. In his books there are often references to him being a regular cocaine user and both the Watson and Holmes characters were habitual smokers of tobacco. In his books he is an expert at chemistry, he discovers how to detect blood in one of his books using some sort of iodine concoction. He is also an expert at martial arts and fist-fighting. All in all, I thought it was a good movie – most definitely worth a watch as it integrates most of his books into one movie.” Rob V (3rd February 2010).

As promised in a previous article, I have found a source of my Grandfather’s book closer to South African shores…

From Liberator to Dictator: An Insider’s Account of Robert Mugabe’s Descent into Tyranny
http://www.kalahari.net//books/From-Liberator-to-Dictator-An-Insiders-Account-of-Robert-Mugabes-Descent-into-Tyranny/632/33320131.aspx?trackerid=8083620100120
This is a personal account of the unravelling of Zimbabwe, written by an insider who was prepared to keep faith with Robert Mugabe until it was almost too late. Michael Auret served for many years on Zimbabwe’s respected Catholic Commission of Justice and Peace, which worked tirelessly to defend human rights in that country. In this absorbing memoir, he traces his involvement in the politics of his country, from his days as an opposition MP in Ian Smith’s Rhodesia to his involvement with the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and his election as MP for Harare Central in the brutal election of 2000. The author’s key position as an insider makes this is a fascinating and timely account of the internal politics of Zimbabwe.
