Hollywood paints a bitter picture for our future.
You will note that there is a common theme where the author of the movie paints a picture of doom and gloom without oil, ranging from the extreme world enders to utter chaos and then amazingly we survive. Our world is probably going to have a biblical based ending, but that will be the very end…
I think it is time to take more of a “back to the future II“ view of the end of the world where we have discovered an alternative to fuel by recycling our trash – don’t think we will ever quite get the weather prediction as accurate as that though.
Here is a positive outlook from Rod Hopkins located at http://www.ted.com:
Very good talk, allow yourself about 15 minutes…

There’s a saying “necessity is the mother of invention”. Too many people are getting rich from crude oil so that’s why no other initiatives have taken off. But when it’s gone I don’t think people will even notice the change over to alternitave fuels. My favourite is algea farms in the dessert that convert sunlight into fuel.
The problem with predicting the weather is that the whole planet needs to be taken into consideration not just one particular area, but I think given enough time (if the world doesn’t fall apart before then) they could, with satalite technology and more than a 100 years of historical data, predict it at least for the next 24 hours.
Wise words Daniel.
